James Scott

James Scott is the founder of Privus PLC. He graduated from the University of Notre Dame Law School and served as an editor of the Notre Dame Law Review. He brings nearly three decades of experience in counseling global companies and individuals to protecting and enforcing his client’s intellectual property rights.

A meticulous and highly specialized IP attorney, Jim represents clients across diverse industry segments, including cosmetics and personal care products, automotive supply, furniture manufacturing, health care, publishing, sports, fashion, technology, food products, financial services, plant variety protection, and software. Jim’s practice, though, goes beyond professional legal expertise.

Recognizing that brands, like individuals, possess distinct identities, Jim pursues a trademark practice that is founded upon, and fueled by, human connection. He values personal relationships and enjoys interacting with diverse personalities (and their quirks). With a well-developed listening ear and keen emotional intelligence, he pursues in-depth understanding of the context in which his counsel is sought. This ensures proactive and practical advice that is tailored to the unique characteristics and business objectives of his clients and their brands.

Jim is also driven to dispose of clutter and aim for simplicity and precision in things like writing, information management and legal strategies. And while steering clients clear of unproductive rabbit holes with acumen, he brings creativity and innovation to their matters. This open and sensible approach delivers optimal results for his clients.
